Pass the peas please. This family style restaurant located in an 1880′s restored Victorian home conjures up old memories of eating at grandma’s house. On any given day the chef serves hot biscuits with gravy, cornbread, 3 salads, 3 meats, five vegetables hand selected fresh from the nearby Nashville Farmer’s Market, dessert, sweet tea and lemonade. Also, skillet fried chicken and corn pudding are served at every meal including the country breakfast on Saturday and Sundays. The country breakfast is a steal at $13.25 and includes biscuits and gravy, cheese grits, hash browns, eggs, baked apples, corn pudding, hot pancakes, chicken, country ham, sausage, bacon, fresh orange and coffee. Oh, and I forgot to mention the homemade peach preserves made in house daily. Try them on the biscuits for a mouthwatering experience and you may be asking if they sell them by the jar, which they do.
This all you can eat southern style restaurant has been featured in the NY times and Southern Living magazine as a must stop for all those visiting Nashville. And you never know who you may be sitting with as many celebrities tend to frequent the place.
Be prepared to wait for a table because this hot spot gets crowded early. It’s first come first served. But it’s always worth the wait and if you don’t get enough to eat, it’s your own fault! The only thing missing at Monell’s are beds upstairs for those who ate a little to much; however, the English garden outside includes a sitting area and several swings for those not ready to head out just yet.
